Ten former presidents of ALA call for reconsideration of the replacement of our Core Values. I think they might see something here worth further debate. In my opinion, I think in line with theirs on this, we must reverse this re-visioning of the profession. MCR

This is the statement which ex-ALA President , Michael Gorman made and agreed to have us distribute, when asked, but declined, to attend today's SRRTAC meeting's discussion of the core values revision issue. Michael Gorman was the author of "Our Enduring Values: Librarianship in the 21st Century" and ...

Thank you, Tara, for well articulating the reasons for SRRT's endorsement of the Mandy/Majed resolution at the Council Meeting today at the conference in Baltimore. Also, thanks for the attempt to get the vote on the Core Values rewrite postponed to the annual meeting pending more discussion. Best wishes,Mark ...

Response to Report on the progress and current status of the ALA Core Values Task Force. The committee defines "Values," but not "Core Values. There is an important distinction. Core values statements are declarations of the principles and beliefs that guide the actions and decisions of an organization ...

" As for my calling the revision reactionary ...

Thank you, Charles. I agree with Al that we really must reject the erasure of SocialResponsibilities and Democracy as explicit core values and should, as SRRT AC, take a position on it and, in my opinion, object to this revision in the name, after all, of what SRRT's mission is . Mark R.

Tara, Did you participate on behalf of SRRT in producing this revision? Was SRRT in any way involved or consulted in this process. I ask because we worked very hard and made many substantive arguments for why Social Responsibilities should be a listed core value and we won't that argument. Now that substantive ...

I’m newly on SRRT AC , (altho not at all new to AC as a longtime past member), so excuse me if I’m raining something that has already been proposed.. I’mv wondering if we shouldn’t take the lead in defending Pres. Emily Drabinski against the ongoing witch hunt against her. Even if ALA is addressing it ...

If SRRT hasn't already tried to do so, I propose a possible resolution to be brought from SRRT to Council which is "AGAINST THE 'NEW COLD WAR ". I feel it would be wonderful to have ALA, the voice of American libraries and librarians, on the side of peace as we witness the development of threatening ...
