The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    April,

    I have been in touch with the President of the APALA, which is co-sponsoring an important session at Annual called "Accessing Palestine " The other sponsors are Librarians and Archivists for Palestine (LAP) and the Library Freedom Project (LFP). She would welcome adding SRRT's official co-sponsorship. I need top get back to her soon. Theey would also be happy to have a financial contribution  covering part of the stipend expenditures as well as any speaker we might wish to add to the panel (neither necessary for co-sponsorship) .

    Can you and Charles arrange a quick vote on this online?

    The description of the event is below

    Mark Rosenzweig

    ++++++++++++++++++++

    Here is the panel description:

    This event will consist of a panel discussion with representatives from the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association, Library Freedom Project, and Librarians and Archivists with Palestine, in dialogue with Asian American social justice educator Shengxiao 'Sole' Yu. Informed by our historical understanding, professional ethics, and social justice lens as librarians of color and librarians working closely with communities of color, we will collectively discuss ways to foster awareness and dialogue around the issue of Palestine. We will examine how Palestine constitutes a key equity, diversity, and inclusion issue that libraries have an ethical responsibility to address. Attendees will come away with an understanding of how Palestine constitutes a key equity, diversity, and inclusion issue that libraries have an ethical responsibility to address. Presenters will share ideas around library activities such as information literacy instruction, collections, professional development, and public programming that people can bring back to their institution.

    Can we ask Sherre as Treasurer to weigh in on this? We would be contributing money to a program that's already been planned. I just want to make sure that we can support it in terms of a financial contribution.
    Thanks
    Charles

    Since we're on a crunch, I've gone ahead and put together a voting form:

    If we vote to contribute money and our Treasurer finds out that we can't, we can still co-sponsor in name.

    The $200 is fine. Regarding expenses at annual in general, I know HHTF has plans & April mentioned snacks for the all-TF meeting. What else? (Not counting travel awards & Biblo-those are budgeted separately.)

    To my knowledge, that is it, Sherre.

    Our speakers for the panel are all ALA members, so unfortunately, we can't give them honorariums.
