The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Hello everyone,

I hope to see a lot of you at ALA in San Diego!

There will be a panel on Sunday, June 30th from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. titled "Accessing Palestine: Awareness, Education, and Advocacy in Library Spaces in San Diego Convention Center, Room 28.

Jaena Ray Cabrera, The President of Asian Pacific American Libraries, is looking for Palestinian library workers who may be interested in joining the panel. Please see below for her post and contact information:

    Hello all,

We're looking for Palestinian library workers attending ALA Annual who might be interested in speaking on this panel with us. We recognize the collective grief, emotional labor, and trauma of the ongoing genocide in Palestine, but we also know it is important to include Palestinian voices in this panel. If you'd like to advise only or contribute anonymously in some way, that is totally fine too.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns.

    Thank you.

    Conference scheduler: https://cdmcd.co/wjjWPa.

    Here is the panel description:
This event will consist of a panel discussion with representatives from the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association, Library Freedom Project, and Librarians and Archivists with Palestine, in dialogue with Asian American social justice educator Shengxiao 'Sole' Yu. Informed by our historical understanding, professional ethics, and social justice lens as librarians of color and librarians working closely with communities of color, we will collectively discuss ways to foster awareness and dialogue around the issue of Palestine. We will examine how Palestine constitutes a key equity, diversity, and inclusion issue that libraries have an ethical responsibility to address. Attendees will come away with an understanding of how Palestine constitutes a key equity, diversity, and inclusion issue that libraries have an ethical responsibility to address. Presenters will share ideas around library activities such as information literacy instruction, collections, professional development, and public programming that people can bring back to their institution.
