I think it's perfect, April. Lots of links is the way to go imo. Thanks for all this work!

Mark: Re-read my comment. This is feedback we have heard from many different sources. That's a fact, not an 'insinuation.' I didn't accuse anyone specific of anything, but the tone of discussion at SRRT has been a factor in people leaving the round table for many years. It's something that's been documented ...

How we describe ourselves says far less about us than what we do. We can call ourselves 'leftist' and 'radical' until we're blue in the face: it's meaningless if we're not accomplishing anything. And if we're doing the work, that work matters whether we call ourselves 'radical' or not.

This post is a great example of what I cited in the meeting on Monday: that your task force's inner circle does not seem to listen closely or with an open mind when people outside your clique are talking, and so you very often wind up arguing with positions that nobody is taking. I did not suggest that ...

Mary makes a good point. I think it speaks volumes that despite the fact that you developed this document only among the three of you, you nonetheless felt comfortable referring to it as 'the views of the International Responsibilities Task Force.' And Rory is quite right in his post up above that this ...

Mark: As you know - but many of our fellow members likely do not - SRRT is in the process of gathering feedback from current, former and prospective members of our round table and trying to collaborate on a plan for this round table's future. As you heard in the action council meeting yesterday, attempting ...

Hi, Hillary! Thanks for this update and for the ongoing work to make the code of conduct work for our members. One question: what does the language 'users of other sites/channels' mean? Social media like Twitter or Facebook? Zoom chat sections? Blog post comment sections? All of the above?

The application for the working groups that will craft interpretations of the new core values is now live. Please apply! Applications will be considered until February 29. I don't know the timeline for the committees to convene and start their work but I'll report back if/when I hear more. Link ...

Today at council II I filed a motion to delay the core values report another six months to allow time for units to give input into the new core values before a final vote in June. That motion failed, and failed by quite a bit. The tally I have was 7 votes for, 138 against, 1 abstain. Whe. I discussed ...

Al: By claiming that these 'standard talking points' are 'hiding the real reasons' for this revision you seem to be calling me and Sara liars. Is that your intention? ------------------------------ Tara Brady Assistant Library Manager Queens Public Library She/Her/Hers ------------------------ ...

Mark: I did not say - or even imply - that it was a 'vanity project' so I'm not sure why that's in quotes. And no, I was not on the core values task force, so I was not directly involved in the revision. If I was, I'd have said so. This revision has been in progress for years, and has been discussed ...

Every corner of this association likely has some element or other of the old core values that they'd rather keep (except for SustainRT I guess!) While it's true the word 'democratic' appears only once in this document, 'democracy' only appears twice in the old core values, which are more than twice as ...

The short answer for why they're deleting so many core values is because there was significant overlap between the old ones. So the proposed draft doesn't simply remove seven of them: only two of the proposed new core values, Access and Public Good, have direct one-to-one analogues in the old ones. The ...

Hello! I'm in the waiting room for the meeting. I thought it was supposed to be at 2pm EST but it doesn't seem to have opened yet. I know a lot of ALA events are on Central time so maybe I've misunderstood and have shown up early? Has anyone managed to get in? ------------------------------ Tara Brady ...

Just to clarify, the bylaws amendment resolution is a revised version of the resolution I sent to this list last week, drafted by Vermont chapter councilor Jessamyn West and I.  It's been referred to committee and will come back at LLX, and will hopefully result in a bylaws amendment on the spring ballot. ...

We've been having some protesters making the rounds of children's events in NYC and are trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel in putting together a game plan for future protests.
