I read this article this morning, and while they are reading on their smart phone, it is the same processing of language. https://www.newstatesman.com/ideas/2025/11/the-real-crisis-of-literacy-were-reading-too-much ------------------------------ [Wanda] [Mae][Huffaker] Librarian Salt Lake County ...

Dear IFRT Members, I have heard from members of the Roundtable who are concerned, following the announcement this week of Deborah Caldwell-Stone's departure. I too am greatly saddened. She has been an inspiring leader, and to me, a mentor and a friend. I recognize that ALA has been faced with making ...

I also noticed that some of our information was not up to date - as I was wandering through the pages, which makes sense ( under the who we are) . I could check everyone, or I could check myself first, which I know to be true, and everyone could check themselves. Is there a way you would like us to submit ...

IFRT Members, Now that the election is over I am able to make the Committee appointments for the 2025-2026 year. Many of you have submitted the Volunteer Form already, but if there is anyone who had considered involvement and did not have a chance to respond there is still an opportunity. Please send ...

Emily, If you are able to get to the link where the interpretations are listed with the original, and the drafts are both listed, in an email from Ray (by chance, I don't know what you can see?) At the bottom of that, if you scroll all the way down is a feedback form. That PDF is not very commentable ...

I just reviewed the very excellent and thorough slides. I was not able to attend. Where might be a good place for these to live, not in our library, but in a more visible place? ------------------------------ Wanda Huffaker Librarian Salt Lake County Library ------------------------------

I am not entirely sure what happened. I was trying to save some choices, and go back to a ballot. Everytime I went back, the choices were not there, All of a sudden, the IFRT ballot indicated that I had voted????? I had not deliberately finished any one ballot, as most were empty. ------------------------------ ...

In years past when voting I believe we could make selections, and return to the ballot to add to it. For instance, select some at large council members, then go back and select more. The vote was not final until clicking submit. It allowed us to read statements and do some research. BEWARE, when you ...

When I found out my county had limited travel this year I considered signing up for the digital LLX, however with further research I see that it is the same price for a mere handful of sessions. I cannot warrant the charge to our budget for this. To be honest, what I really want to attend are governance ...

After facing this, we established that we are responding to people. 1) If the same person submits the same challenge, for the same service, the board decision was final, and they cannot resubmit. 2) If another person does, we consider what their issue is and look at it fairly, one person may object to ...

I have wondered about a computer system where a parent  can request, book by book, what they don't want their children to read.  I know the capacity must exist. I remember it from the lawsuit in Utah in 2012, where a book (In Our Mother's House) was put behind the desk on restricted shelves.  In the ...

I love this statement from MLA during BBW: "Librarians are no shrinking violets, don't let our cardigans and thick-rimmed glasses fool you. None of us want to be arrested for doing our jobs, but we will not sacrifice our ethical and moral principles simply because we are threatened,"   Together we are ...

Accurate information vs. truth is always interesting to me when we discuss that here. I use the 200's (religion) and diet books as an example. I prefer to provide sources, or direct them to the area, but remain neutral for the best diet, or recommendations on a good religion. My state has a majority ...

Thank you for this, it is very interesting.  I am not a very involved member of this roundtable beyond paying dues and pondering big pictures.  I appreciate so much the historical context the resolutions provide for one aspect of SRRT's work. ------------------------------ Wanda Huffaker Librarian ...
