That's a reasonable point, Erin. Thanks for sharing this resolution in advance of Annual. Those of us providing feedback (as requested) aren't saying "don't put this forward," we're sharing the lenses we have. That can be helpful for the movers in preparing for Council discussion on this item, and it ...

I'll me-too Peter's response: "Frankly, I thought that was one of the potential benefits of holding Annual in June that we could partner with local libraries to make their Pride presence all the more resonant." One element of my dissertation on openly LGBTQIA+ academic library leaders was a timeline ...

This is wonderful news. This nomination process does not run itself. My hat is off to those who stewarded this timely and appropriate nomination and to the Board who approved it. Karen G. SchneiderALA Councilor at Large

Brian, Aaron, and other esteemed member leaders, I have two questions: 1. There are six comments within the PDF of the Bylaws draft 4, and the comment adjacent to the first section of Article V, Executive Board, states: "Composition of Executive Board revised per affirmative vote of Council CD#36 ...

Thanks for the clarification. A follow-up question: do proposed Bylaws amendments need a second? I didn't think so but I don't want my proposals to get kicked back. It sounds as if Councilors who want to share amendment ideas would do well to reach out to their peers with their language. Thanks, ...

Is it possible to see the proposed amendments to the Bylaws as they emerge? This would be useful on various fronts. Additionally, I submitted two proposed amendments several weeks ago and (unless it went to spam) I did not receive confirmation that my submissions were received. Should I resubmit? ...

Stephanie, I think you nailed it here: "I feel like these [representative board] positions came out of the work of the group I was on (Forward Together), when the assembly model and the idea of direct elections was still in place." I believe this is correct. Recalling the SCOE and FT discussions, the ...

Stephanie and Council, I reviewed Draft 2 and Draft 3 of the bylaws and copied and pasted the text into Google Docs for further comparison. From what I can see, the language in the Elections section about the composition of the board was identical in both versions: "The Council Committee on Committees ...

Ed, Maggie included two documents in her original message from yesterday. They can also be found in the Connect "Library" for that message (in Connect, go to ALA Council, then Library, and select the message "ALA Council Discussion regarding draft Operating Agreement Policy Revision, November 3, 2022"). ...

Oh no. I will dearly miss Robert's dedication to librarianship and his wry humor. My heart goes out to his wife, Robin. This is a great loss to our profession. Karen G. Schneider

I appreciate the work of C&B on this round of revisions -- truly heroic! I was unable to attend the 9/23 session but having finally carved out time to review the document, I wanted to share my concerns about Article VII, Section 4: "Section 4. Registration. For all members attending any meeting or conference ...

Agree on the list of attendees, though that is actually a limitation of Zoom. Webinar mode doesn't support providing an attendee list to participants. We could brainstorm a workaround (which could be as simple as Councilors self-reporting in advance to their peers that they plan to attend online). I ...

In addition to abstentions, non-voting also happens. At this conference, Councilor participation in voting has been lower than usual, based on a quick review of voting tallies from MW 2019 forward I did yesterday when the voting patterns at AC22 piqued my interest. I started writing down tallies from ...
