Hi all, I joined RMRT in March. I appreciate the welcome message RMRT sent when I joined.  I had a full schedule at Annual so I wasn't able to make any of the RMRT events, but it was great to see such an active group. I just retired last week so it felt timely to join.

I am currently serving my second year of a special two-year term on ALA Executive Board, which keeps me busy, so my engagement with RMRT over the next year will likely be light. But in reviewing the available committees, I wondered if if RMRT ever had, or is considering establishing, a legislative/advocacy committee, and how RMRT sees itself intersecting with ALA's legislative and advocacy efforts?

Welcome Karen to RMRT! In addition to the special programs we had in San Diego we also had a robust membership meeting chaired by the wonderful outgoing chair Michele Lauer-Bader. We will have quarterly membership meetings via zoom and in person at ALA annual in Philadelphia.
We followed that with our book discussion on books that take place in California led by our book discussion organizer Nann Hilyard. We will have book discussions on zoom on the 5th Sundays of the months when they occur

    Hi Karen,

It appears your question relates to whether or not RMRT has a legislative or advocacy committee. The answer is no, we do not. I have been a member of RMRT for 4 years and while I've been a member I do not think we've had such a committee; however, this does seem like something worth considering. Would you like to write up more information about what you are visioning as the role of such a committee and how many people you think would be a good amount to be part of it? Some goals maybe that you could see for the committee. If you write something up and email it to me at lisa.kippur@outlook.com, I can bring it up at our next RMRT board meeting and forward your idea to the chair of RMRT for consideration. What a wonderful idea!
