I will not be able to make the November 4th date either, as that's one of the days of Policy Corps.  Will there be a recording for us to watch/listen to after? ------------------------------ Sonnet Ireland Library Director She/Her/Hers ------------------------------

To be clear, I think everyone was doing the best they could, and I appreciate how hard it was.  The answer will likely involve having a person (or two or three) dedicated to the virtual attendance for voting issues, etc.  But I don't want this to sound ungrateful.  It was just super frustrating for all ...

I absolutely agree, Kari.  I was one of the ones with issues speaking.  I was called on... and not unmuted until after Patty had moved on, which was insanely frustrating, especially when someone called the question (thankfully out of order) and it looked like I wouldn't get the chance to speak.  I pointed ...

This is horrific!  Do we know yet if the man was an attendee, a vendor, an employee at the venue, or someone unconnected to the conference who was able to sneak in?  Ultimately, no matter who it was, we need better security.  If nothing else, to ensure that people are checking (or blocking off) any areas ...

That's a good point, Eileen! I think because the number was similar in many votes, that it's easy for us to assume it must be the same 7 or whatever.  But it's likely completely different groups of people that have conflicts for different reasons.  I hadn't thought about that. ------------------------------ ...

Usually there is a discount for lifetime members, but I was told that wasn't the case this time.  Even then, it's still steep, I agree. ------------------------------ Sonnet Ireland Library Director She/Her/Hers ------------------------------

I concur, and I would actually like to see a possible abbreviated cost.  I have no qualms about paying SOMETHING, but $250 was steep in my mind (even for the conference itself, but especially for those of us who will likely just attend meetings).  I do think it is problematic to have a fee for ALA members ...

I replied to the wrong thread, so I'm sharing it here... I'll admit that I abstained during a vote Saturday, but that was because I'm virtual… and there was one resolution with amendments that got very confusing for me by the time of the vote.  At that point, I was unsure of what exact aspect we were ...

I'll admit that I abstained during a vote yesterday, but that was because I'm virtual… and there was one resolution with amendments that got very confusing for me by the time of the vote.  At that point, I was unsure of what exact aspect we were voting on, and it wasn't repeated nor was it on the screen. ...

I agree.  I feel that if there is a need for something like Forum, then maybe that should be mandatory.  The idea that fewer than half of the council would debate things and clarify things without addressing it in the actual Council Sessions is problematic.  But I also understand the need for it---and ...

To be clear, I am horrified about what has recently happened.  I would much rather see a resolution that announces the dedication of libraries to access of information.  That would remind library staff it is their duty to assist patrons in finding access to these services... and encourage libraries and ...

I am strongly, deeply, profoundly AGAINST this.  This unfairly punishes those of us in states that do not align with our personal viewpoints.  It also doesn't take into account that there may be sanctuary cities within those states.  New Orleans is my hometown and would be eliminated as a location for ...

I like this idea because it would make conferences more enjoyable if we weren't in meetings for 4+ hours a day every day.  I'm not against having SOME hybrid meetings... or even a social.   But having meetings focused on one or two items spread throughout the year would be less exhausting for some of ...

That shouldn't be the case since I believe the Council Sessions are supposed to be open to any member unless you go into Executive Session.  Though maybe they are required for that? ------------------------------ Sonnet Ireland Library Director She/Her/Hers ------------------------------

Is there a plan for how to reduce the number of At-Large Councilors from roughly 100 to 18?  Will seats just be eliminated as people rotate off with fewer being elected each year?  If we are going to reduce the number of At-Large Councilors, it seems like we would want to institute term limits as a way ...

I agree with all the points in this resolution.  I think we should look at having a single informal social at each conference for the purpose of getting to know each other and actually socializing so we can work together.  It could be done in the same way that GODORT or RUSA have social events.  But ...
