It took me a few years to join ALA after being an LIS student. I wish someone had advocated joining ALA ...

Also a SRRT program on hate speech was rejected with speakers from various points of view, including the former director of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Office. Given that this is a hot topic for the ALA Council right now, this makes no sense to me. We have asked for an explanation but have received ...

For some reason, the SRRT statement I sent yesterday was posted missing its beginning. I am resending it now. Al Kagan SRRT International Responsibilities Task Force SRRT Councilor, 1999-2009, 2011-2015 African Studies Bibliographer and Professor of Library Administration ...

I am strongly in favor of keeping the requirements as they are. Opening up a loophole makes it possible to end up with a person with a corporate background, who will want to run the association even more like a corporation that it is today. That means downgrading social responsibility concerns and upgrading ...

As I said before, I am in favor of mandating the Washington Office to give us a detailed report of their activities in Congress, and the responses to these activities. I would be in favor of a resolution for that purpose. Al Kagan SRRT Councilor African Studies Bibliographer ...

Daniel, Thanks very much for this initiative. I am very interested in the topic, and I doubt that any research has ever been done on it. I think it is particularly important to hold the ALA Washington Office accountable, since it is their job to lobby for the Council's policy decisions. I have tried ...

Norman was not only kind and knowledgeable, but he was always helpful. I went to Norman for information on the workings of ALA and for help in publishing my work. He always knew how to proceed. I will miss his presence. Al Kagan
