For people who may not be as Extremely Online as I am, I wanted to pass along that there have been reports of people getting home from ALA and testing positive for COVID. For your own safety and the safety of the people in your home and your workplace you'll want to test yourself when you get home and ...

Thanks for these notes Rhonda, and thanks for the policy citation Tara. I can only share what I was told by ALA Governance which is "if you are not registered for the ALA Annual Conference (either in person or digital experience), you cannot participate in the AC Council sessions." and this is despite ...

> Clarification on this would be great, because it sounds like practice has been overriding policy. This is my understanding. And I think there have been attempts to bring practice more in line with policy but it's also my understanding that the policies haven't officially changed yet; we get to determine ...

I agree with this strongly. It is a new change that registration is required to attend Council meetings and, if I am reading Council documents correctly, that change still needs to be approved by Council. Please someone correct me if I am wrong. I can understand that there are organizational reasons ...

Thanks for this Ann, I think you raise some really important points. One of the things that I appreciate about Council Forums is that they are less formal, they don't have to involve the (paid) time of ALA staff and resources, and they allow people to ask questions and have discussions in a way that ...

> if we are trying to make Council participation more inclusive of all our members, we need to be more respectful of time, money and travel constraints. > Blocking out 3-4 days for travel to a conference requires a level of privilege not all librarians have; those same librarians may > much more easily ...

> Given that Council members are members of the Association I don't understand how requiring registration > to attend Council meetings is not a violation of our existing policy? I was confused too by the seeming conflict between the new Rules & Guidelines and ALA Policy. I saw President Wong's statement ...

Thanks for this Marsha -- I'm concerned about the new rule about meeting attendance. The new rules read... Virtual Attendees must register for the ALA Conference Digital Experience and Councilors are encouraged to be in attendance at least 15 minutes prior to the start of each Council meeting to help ...

Thank you President Wong. In case anyone, like me, needs to refresh your memory on A.7.4.5 A.7.4.5 Registration at Conferences and Midwinter Meetings (Old Number 7.4.5) ALA members may attend general membership and council meetings, whenever and wherever held, by showing either a conference badge for ...

That makes sense. However the message that people see when they try to see the content on that page is misleading at best. I'm aware this may not be a thing under your control, but just letting people know "Hey you have to log in to see this content" might make more sense. As it is, people click a ...

I am also a little surprised with this schedule, in addition to the fact that it can't be seen on the ALA website without logging in. I was expecting to have some meetings that are a little earlier than I would prefer, as someone who works nights, but for a hybrid session having not one but two meetings ...

I am looking for, and am unable to find, a calendar of Council  meetings on the ALA website that does not require a login to view. It appears that these pages used to exist, they all show up when I search for them, but the pages themselves are not available. I would like ALA to please put up a public ...

Thank you very much for this Mike. I'm very excited for the potential for LLX, and the positive effect of not having governance/committee meetings at the same time as attractive programming. I really would like to continue to push for clarity in terms of knowing what event we're attending when we go ...

Same here. Not health reasons for me. As much as I'd love to see my colleagues in DC, sending a Councilor to Annual is my Chapter's largest expense and a hybrid event would be attractive to our chapter for cost reasons. ------------------------------ Jessamyn West Chapter Councilor - Vermont she/her ...

Thank you Marsha -- I appreciate that ALA has made this decision. I also think it might be worth using some of ALAs social capital to express plainly what is also possibly implied by this decision which is that Texas, in the light of Texas' recent anti-abortion legislation, is no longer a place that ...

I will definitely be attending remotely as long as there are options to do it because the Vermont Chapter is small and sending me to ALA is their largest annual expense. So I am looking forward to the schedule and am also hoping we can schedule the meetings at a more reasonable time for our colleagues ...
