Marianne Swierenga is the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian at Western Michigan University Libraries, previously the Metadata Specialist. Her MLIS is from Wayne State University, and focused on academic librarianship, information issues and the digital environment, the future of scholarly communication and new models of publishing.
Also a graduate of Western Michigan University's MFA program in creative writing, her career in literary publishing included being an assistant poetry editor for Third Coast literary journal, Assistant to the Editor at New Issues Poetry & Prose, and nine years as Managing Editor of New Issues.
Interests include new and emerging technologies used in the dissemination of information. Scholarly communication and publishing, digital humanities, preservation and digitization of "hidden" collections, metadata, and linked data.
