The SAC Subcommittee on Faceted Vocabularies' Module maintenance and testing subgroup is pleased to share a draft of the latest module addition to the Retrospective Implementation Best Practices: Demographic/Geographic: mapping LCSH heading qualifiers to 386 and 370 fields. This module focuses on mappings from qualifiers that describe demographic groups which appear in LCSH heading constructions to their corresponding demographic terms and geographic place names. Unlike previous modules in which the precision of mappings could vary, the mappings themselves are less ambigous here, and so the demographic/geographic module focuses on identifying patterns in LCSH heading constructions which are eligible for mappings.
Before publishing the updated Best Practices, SSFV is seeking feedback from SAC on the module narrative contained in the summary document and on the mapping spreadsheet itself. Please leave comments and questions on the summary document or spreadsheet, or respond to this post, by July 31st.
