  • 1.  Neurodiversity Discussion - Wed, Dec 13

    Posted Dec 09, 2023 07:47 PM
Passing along information from Susan about the event this week.
    -------

On Wednesday, Dec 13 I will be leading our group zoom discussion on the topic of neurodiversity.
    The discussion is scheduled for 60 minutes at 1:00 eastern / 12:00 central / 11:00 mountain / 10:00 Pacific.

    The Topics: Staff Neurodiversity

Many, if not all of us, manage neurodiverse staff. This is a topic for which knowledge is critical, but it is difficult to come by. We need to better understand the challenges and needs of our staff across the many different types of neurodiversity (e.g. ADHD, autism, ec.) so that we can help support their success, but we also need clarity around what is expected of us as leaders in order to ensure that we are supportive as well as fair when considering issues such as defining productivity and work distribution across our respective teams. I might also add that we this knowledge is important for our own mental wellness, as well. This interest group is so important for providing a confidential, safe space for us to share experiences and support each other.

At the beginning of the discussion, I will put a link in chat to a document in which I am gathering resources, such as articles, blogs, videos, organizations, and more.

I encourage you to bring your own recommendations; I will gather them to add to the  document to share out with everyone.

As a reminder, all of these interest group discussions are not recorded to encourage open and honest discussion.

I look forward to a great conversation and learning from each of you.

  • 2.  RE: Neurodiversity Discussion - Wed, Dec 13

    Posted Dec 12, 2023 07:57 AM

I'm looking forward to our discussion tomorrow about Neurodiversity.  This is a huge topic, so I've gone ahead below and listed some possible topic ideas:

    1. do you have any neurodiverse staff who are set up for accommodation in your organization?
      1. were you included in the process?
      2. what has worked? Any ideas why?
      3. what has been less successful? Why?
    2. Does your organization's HR offer any training for managers of neurodiverse staff?
      1. How successful , or not, have you found it in helping you to be a more effective manager?
      2. Have you had to do research on your own to try and understand neurodiversity and how to be an effective manager?
    3. As a leader of a team, of which some member(s) are neurodiverse
      1. how are you balancing expectations of workloads? productivity? fairness?
    4. As a leader of a team, of which some member(s) are neurodiverse
      1. do you have the internal organizational support and resources that you need to do your job well?
      2. How are you managing your own mental wellness and stress managing a neurodiverse staff member?

    See you tomorrow

    Susan Klopper
