Bio

Katherine (Kathy) Lester has 23 years experience as a school librarian.  She is currently Adjunct Faculty for Wayne State University's School of Information specializing in School and Youth Librarianship and remains an active member of the library community as an ALA Councilor At Large, an AASL Board Member, and Advocacy Co-Chair for the Michigan Association of School Librarians (MASL) and serves on a variety of other committees.  She believes passionately in the value of all libraries in the library ecosystem.  One of her proudest accomplishments was working on behalf of AASL with the staff from Senator Reed's and Representative Grijalva's office on the language of the Right to Reed Act which would help ensure equitable access to a school library staffed by a state-certified school librarian nationally.  She also worked to ensure the National Education Association (NEA) endorsement of this Act.
