Thank you Wanda. - I am so used to spending time on my ballot, “saving it” and finally “voting”. If you open a ballot, don’t vote for anybody [yet] and close it, is it “gone”? A curse or an honor, as an ALA Honorary Member I belong to every unit of ALA thus I have a very big ballot to get through. ...

Sonnet - Thanks for the support. I find the idea of a Council social quite compelling…. Something we haven’t done before and if you even get to meet several new colleagues - it is worth the time.

Amy—Thank for the clarification I get what you are saving but it doesn’t solve what I think is the problem. Each state has it’s own library association -sometimes more than 1. The chapters councilors we have are all members of the boards of their library associations. So example1: Sadie - she is elected ...

Thanks Harriet….. I share the same concerns—The “large” states and the “small” states have the same but very different issues. California has 39 million+ population and Alaska has 600,000 or so I would like TAG to rethink this Ann Symons A chapter councilor 1985-1993 and always at heart

June is here and ALA is right around the corner.  Aaron Dobbs, Chair of the Resolutions Committee, has asked that resolutions be in early. Thank you for all of your comments about the resolution on in ALA Connect.   Comments continue to be welcome on ALA's Council Connect page.  There are several "seconders" ...

Greetings - I particularly appreciated Amy's response because it reminded me how "scared" Council can be when you are new and you don't know anybody. I find this if often true of the chapter councilors. And new can be a relative term. When I first came on Council it was clear that there were sections ...

Proposed Resolution on ALA Council Forum   May 25, 2022 Dear Fellow Councilors,   At the end of April, I sent a message to Council expressing my concerns about Council Forum.  I received some feedback in support of my concerns, but very little. The discussion about Forum at the recent TAG meeting ...

Eileen raises two points I would like to respond to... I'm not sure - or I don't remember - why we reduced the number of hours of Council, but note that we have also voted to extend the time when we aren't finished or rush through after a committee chair has read his or her report verbatim from the podium ...

April 29, 2022 Dear Fellow Councilors, Council Forum was established many years ago to address issues of transparency in ALA governance, but I, and other Council colleagues, are concerned that over the years Forum has become the problem it was established to address. As we prepare to make changes ...

Nick's message below is very thought provoking.... I'd like reply I hope in a thoughtful way My first comment is that the Executive Director has never been a "member" of the Executive Board. The Executive Director is an ALA staff member, albeit a very important one and for the ED to hold a voting position, ...

Diane, The discussion here has turned to representation on ALA’s Executive Board and you are absolutely correct that when compared to public librarians, academic librarians, library school faculty, we, as an organization, have not done a good job in ensuring that the voices of school librarians are ...

I can't speak for my Hawaii colleagues but I can say that as a 49 year + Alaskan we often find ourselves with meetings EST and CST. It is just a way of life. I had one meeting at annual which started 4:30 am Thoughts from others: AK and HI Sent from my iPhone

I totally agree with Ann Ewbank. Alaska’s Department of Health and Social Services has held public hearings about each of the various tiers - after 1a The state;’s allocation committee did deviate from the CDC regulations on more than one occasion with reasons they felt were valid for our state. One ...

Greetings - Given that the last day to comment is Friday, I put this on my "to do" list. Despite the fact that this interpretation has not been updated since 1993, much of the language remains well written and in keeping with ALA's principles. What is strange about this interpretation is its format. ...
