CSULB Library Technical Services is using OpenRefine to semi automate the updating and standardization of our print serial records. All of the holdings records are pulled in batches from Alma using MarcEdit impoted into OpenRefine. The holding records are then transposed so that each row is one holding record from there. It is possible to filter and face it the records into groups so that the records in each group can all be updated at once rather than doing each holding record individually. Once the changes are complete in OpenRefine, the records are exported out of OpenRefine opened in visual studio code to get rid of any null field values, saved as .mrk files. The file is then opened in MarcEdit, tested for a valid record structure, and re-uploaded into Alma. This process has vastly sped up the process of standardizing and updating our printe serial holdings records. The idea for this project came from many different presentations on holdings records over the years and I thoroughly think anyone who has ever done a presentation on holding automating any kind of record updates.
