Presentation by Ray Schmidt at the Authority Control Interest Group (ACIG) meeting at ALA Midwinter, Chicago, IL, Sunday, February 1, 2015, 1pm-3pm.
Ray Schmidt (Assistant Director for Discovery Services, Wellesley College, and chair of the Music Library Association Authorities Subcommittee) discussed ways to advocate for the value of authority work. Using the MLA Statement on Authority control as a starting point, Ray considered real-world situations in which the need for advocacy arises, and how catalogers could prepare to demonstrate what library users “get” from authority control.
