Purpose: Provides a forum for researching potential applications of Machine and Deep Learning in library science, including discussions, publications, and outreach to the wider Library community. Its goal is to educate librarians on uses of the complex techniques of machine learning and to provide a space for critically thinking both about new applications, and about the ethical and social impact of these technologies , as the field rapidly expands in the coming decade.

This group is part of Core's Technology Section.

    I'm pleased to announced that Joy Dubose and Peter Musser have volunteered to serve as co-chairs for the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Libraries Interest Group. Their term began on July 1st, 2023. Below is some information about their backgrounds.

    Joy DuBose is an Associate Professor and the Cataloger for Special Collections/ Special Projects at Mississippi State University. She has presented and published articles on emerging technology trends including VR and AI. She holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Southern Mississippi.

    Peter Musser is the Head of Library Services for the Institute of Knowledge Management in Education. His work focuses on improving search, discovery, and creation of open educational resources, primarily through the development of OER Commons. He received his MLIS from the University of British Columbia, with a focus on services and ethics of data and information.
