Hello fellow catalogers and metadata folks! Welcome to the new CC:DA space. Well, maybe not so new but I hope this gets us up and running.
I'm Amanda Sprochi, the incoming CC:DA chair. I'm a cataloging and metadata librarian at the University of Missouri. I don't have an official title, so I generally refer to myself as a cataloger/data wrangler. In reality I do a lot of the "weird stuff"--foreign language titles, ebooks, and all sort of rare and Special Collections stuff. I was the medical/veterinary cataloger at MU for many years before my role sort of segued into the jack-of-all-trades position I have now.
I'd like to give a big shout out and thanks to Amanda Ros, the outgoing CC:DA chair, who stepped in to cover when a new chair was needed on an interim basis. Amanda has been working hard to get things rolling again after the hiatus in a lot of CC:DA activities due to COVID and the RDA 3R project. She will thankfully be staying in an advisory role, for which I am very grateful. Shout out too to John Meyers, whose long experience in both CC:DA and MAC has helped tremendously to get things restarted.
There are already proposals that need a response, so I'll be posting them on the list shortly. Please use this as an opportunity to read them closely and comment freely on them. We need your comments! Both pro and con. We will take these and pass them on to our NARDAC (North American RDA Committee) representatives Bob Maxwell and Adam Schiff, so they can craft a North American response to potential changes in RDA and the RDA toolkit. So this is your chance to have your opinion heard.
Once again, welcome to everyone. If you need to contact me, please feel free to email me at
sprochia@missouri.edu. Here's hoping we have a productive and collaborative year.
Best,
aks
