Dear CORE Library storage List serv members,

Good afternoon. Hope all is well with you.   We have some updates, comments and questions for you.  Amy Boucher and I, as the co-chairs for the ALA CORE Library storage interest group, met recently to start thinking about future plans for the group. We have been thinking about sending a "how do you deal with X at your facility "message to the list serv every month trying to promote discussion.  We would love some ideas for monthly questions from you. Feel free to respond to us directly with ideas!

Does anyone on this list attend the CORE Forum or the LibLearnX conference?  If so, is there an audience for storage topics at either event?

And finally, would there be any interest in attending an in person field trip to a library storage facility in San Diego, during the Annual meeting in 2024? If so, please let Amy and I know so we can think about logistics. Date of the tour would probably be on Thursday the 27th of June.

    Best,

    Cathy and Amy

    Hi Cathy,

I love the idea of a monthly discussion topic. What about a topic on shared storage for campus collections? Is this a thing? How do universities/libraries deal with climate/access issues if anthropology collections are stored with archival and circulating book collections?

I would be very interested in visiting a library storage facility in San Diego next summer.

    Thank you,

    Jill

    Hi, all.

I'm definitely interested in a tour in San Diego. I'll also be at LibLearnX and if there's anywhere in the greater Baltimore area that is interested in hosting a tour, you can count me in.

    Thanks!

    Hi Cathy --

I like the idea of a monthly discussion topic. Some ideas off the top of my head:
*how do you store and circulate microfiche?
*what kind of specialized shelving do you have for oversize material (ie objects, large poster tubes) or artwork?

As for conferences, at the moment I'm only planning on ALA Annual and would be interested in a library storage facility tour in San Diego.

    best, Katia

Agreed, I like the idea of a monthly discussion topic.   I'd be willing to contribute to a list of topics/questions as well.    I liked Katia's ideas, and would also be interested to discuss emergency planning and response, safety procedures/protocols, storing/handling special collections materials and other formats (and many more, but those are what come to mind at this moment.

    Thanks very much,

    Mary
