Good afternoon all,
With September nipping at my heels, I figured it is time to write my first message as Chair of TSD. For those unfamiliar with the acronym, it is the short hand I will be using to refer to the Core Technical Services Directors of Large Research Libraries (formerly -- and hopefully never again -- known as "Big Heads"). I write to share two updates:
1) After much discussion over the past year, we will be formally transitioning to an Interest Group under the updated Core structure. This will bring us in line with our colleagues in CCDO (Chief Collection Development Officers of Large Research Libraries) who have been organized as an interest group rather than a committee. This change will allow us to maintain an active presence on ALA Core Connect and hold open meetings with discussion and engagement from all, while limiting the impact of administrative requirements and expectations that are otherwise placed on committees.
2) Hearing no objections after Ellen's message on June 30th, I am excited to welcome Denise Pan as our new Vice-Chair. Denise brought great ideas for the coming year to our annual meeting, and I hope we will make a great team! Denise and I will be working together to establish a cadence of meetings and events for the coming year that focus on facilitating discussion, promoting engagement, and leveraging our strengths.
