College mergers and closures are no longer rare events - they are reshaping the higher-education landscape. What does this mean for libraries and the people who lead them? How have libraries anticipated, adapted, and sustained their missions during institutional change? Join this open discussion to share experiences with recen library integrations, takeovers, and/or closures. This session will be moderated by Danianne Mizzy and Anne Krakow, who have been studying the impact of mergers, restructuring, and closures on library functions. Topics will include:
- Early signals that a merger or closure may be on the horizon
- Strategies for supporting staff and maintaining morale
- Communicating with leadership and stakeholders during transitions
- Building networks of support and shared learning
Anne Krakow is the Library Director at Saint Joseph's University, A strategic leader in library management, she has expertise in navigating complex organizational transitions, most notably leading two successful library mergers. Danianne Mizzy is an academic library leader specializing in organizational transformation and strategic and program planning. As Dean of University Libraries at Montclair State University, she led the library merger resulting from the university's integration with Bloomfield College.
This event is open to anyone regardless of library type. Participation in the interest group or our events does not require membership in ALA or ALA Core. Attendees for the zoom drop-ins can stop in for a minute or stay for the entire session. The sessions are not recorded to encourage open and honest discussion.
