The Music Library Association's Cataloging and Metadata Committee Vocabularies Subcommittee invites you to participate in the survey described below:
We are conducting an online study to evaluate the use of Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) for music and equivalent headings from the Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus (LCMPT) and Genre/Form Thesaurus (LCGFT) for music.
If you use or work with bibliographic records for notated or performed music (e.g., scores/parts, audio/video/audiovisual recordings) in a cataloging, public services, or reference role, and you apply and/or are familiar with LCSH for music, LCMPT, and/or LCGFT for music headings, we invite you to participate in a survey about your use or nonuse of these controlled vocabularies. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete, and all questions are optional.
Your responses will help to improve understanding of how LCSH, LCMPT, and LCGFT headings for music are currently being applied and utilized, providing valuable insight that could inform recommendations regarding future practice.
You will not receive compensation for participation. Your participation is voluntary and there are no direct benefits to participating. We will report only aggregate results from the survey and individual participants will not be identified.
This research study is being conducted by Janelle West, University of North Texas Libraries, and Rebecca Belford, Oberlin College, with analysis by additional collaborators Anne Adams, Harvard University, and Allison McClanahan, Indiana University, after data is anonymized and de-identified.
