Hello Chief Collection Development Officers of Large Research Libraries Interest Group (CCDO)
Want a mini-break from thinking about budget cuts? Please join us for our open virtual annual spring meeting, Friday, June 20, for a presentation from Dave Hansen and Thomas Padilla from the Author's Alliance for an update on the Public Interest AI Training Corpus Project. There will be plenty of time for questions.
1:00- 2:00 pm Eastern/12:00-1:00 pm Central / 11:00 am-12:00 pm Mountain / 10:00 -11:00 am Pacific.,
With generous support from the Mellon Foundation and an Advisory Board of leading librarians, researchers, and authors, Authors Alliance is leading a project to develop a Public Interest Corpus that is focused on developing large-scale, high-quality AI training data from the world's memory organizations to serve the public interest. Memory organizations like libraries and archives are in a prime position to address AI training data challenges given a multi-century focus on developing high quality, locally and globally comprehensive collections of books, newspapers, scholarly journals, photographs, manuscript materials, and more. We'd like to talk with CCDO about our progress to date, ideas on developing the corpus (and ways libraries can be engaged), and how such a corpus could best serve the interests of research institutions.
