Core Role of the Professional Librarian in Technical Services Interest Group (RPLTS IG) invites speakers to present as part of the 2024 Core Virtual Interest Group Week. The RPLTS session will take place virtually on Friday, March 8, at 2pm Central.

Over the past four years, libraries have experienced a succession of disruptions, including the Covid-19 pandemic, new economic uncertainties, book banning campaigns and the emergence of AI.  These changes, and others, are reshaping both users' needs and the future of technical services work.

We are seeking proposals for presentations about the ways technical services librarians are thinking about and responding to new trends at their institutions, in librarianship, and/or across society.

Potential areas to address could include, but are not limited to:

    • advocacy and outreach

    • artificial intelligence

    • assessment

    • equity, diversity and inclusion

    • management techniques

    • new partnerships and collaborations

    • new user needs

    • staffing challenges

    • systems and workflows

    • vendor relations

We aim to provide a session with 2-3 short presentations (20 minutes max. each) followed by a brief Q&A. We welcome your presentation proposals by January 31, 2024, with selection communicated by February 10, 2024.

You do not need to be a member of ALA/Core to present or attend.

Please submit your proposal using this form.

If you have questions, please contact us. We look forward to receiving your proposals.
