At the PCC Operations Committee meeting on May 6, 2022, librarians from multiple institutions questioned the lack of "Manga" as an accepted term in the LCGFT vocabulary, and expressed a desire to have manga added to the LCGFT. The ALA Graphic Novels and Comics Round Table's Metadata and Cataloging Committee contacted the Policy, Training and Cooperative Programs Division at the Library of Congress, and offered to research the issue from the perspective of comics librarians and the comics community more broadly. Our research has resulted in a report advocating for the inclusion of "Manga" in the LCGFT (and preferably also in the LCSH).

We think it likely that broad comics and library community support will be needed to help convince the Library of Congress to rethink past rejections and include manga in its vocabularies, however, and not just our report. And because SAC members were among those decrying the absence of manga from the LCGFT at the OpCo meeting, I am hoping SAC would be willing to review and endorse our report and recommendation. I'm attaching the report here for SAC review.

    Thanks!

    Best,
    Deborah
