Dear Core Metadata Interest Group colleagues,
The RDA Steering Committee (RSC)'s Religions Working Group has submitted an RDA revision proposal for comment: https://www.rdatoolkit.org/sites/default/files/uploads/RSC_ReligionsWG_2025_1.pdf . Please send me your comments by Wed. 15 October.
The proposal seeks to revise a condition and add a condition option to the RDA element Preferred name of corporate body. More specifically, the proposal seeks to make it possible for catalogers to designate the "official" name of a corporate body as the preferred name, in cases where the corporate body has both an official name and a common name, as well as in cases where the corporate body has both an official name and a conventional name.
I have no issue with the premise of the proposal, but I would recommend that the authors of the proposal explicitly state in the Background section which RDA element they are discussing. It would help those evaluating the proposal determine at-a-glance what is being discussed, without having to look at the earlier draft of the proposal or searching for the links including in the respective Recommendations.
