Hi All,
We are hosting the second session of an online Brown Bag series on Tuesday, March 24 entitled: Analytics and Batch Editing using PyMARC: An Amateur's Code for Accessible Starting Points. This session is "Collections Assessment II: Bibliometrics," and it is the second in a five-part, recorded series on using PyMARC.
In this session, Emily Fidelman of West Virginia University focuses on identifying specific works or subsets within a collection. For example, she creates an accreditation report by merging bibliographic metadata (subject headings) with biographical metadata to create an exploratory diversity audit. These are techniques for quantifying the "aboutness" of a collection and the degree to which a collection is created by the people it represents. This is the foundation for bibliometrics and provides topical and contextual analysis before deriving impact metrics from more traditional usage or citation data.
We hope to see you on Tuesday the 24th. Our next session, "Collections Assessment III: Bibliometrics Continued" (Thursday, April 23rd @ 11 am Central), will focus on merging collections data with usage data and looking at citation analysis.
