Preparing MARC Format Transition IG session for Core IG Week: Mar. 8, 2023

  • 1.  Preparing MARC Format Transition IG session for Core IG Week: Mar. 8, 2023

Dear fellow members of the MARC Format Transition Interest Group,

Happy New Year, 2023, the year of rabbits!

It's been quite a while since I posted here, but I am pleased to let everyone know that the IG is preparing to have the session during the Core IG Week (still showing mainly the 2022 contents) in early March.

In fact, our session is scheduled at 1pm(ET)/noon(CT)/10am(PT) on Wednesday, March 8th and a tentative session title is: "There's A LOT Still Happening in MARC : Some Updates on MARC Formats." So please mark your calendar! Here is a current, draft short description:

The MARC Format Transition Interest Group is pleased to hold a session on what is happening to the MARC Format while Linked Data initiatives are intensifying and progressing. The IG is fortunate to hear from three groups on their latest activities and reports:
Whether your institutions will transition to Linked Data in the near future or not, It seems MARC will co-exist in the library world for a long time to come. So what do we need to be aware of in the MARC format's transition?

While the presenters and I have begun coordinating the session, we are still at an initial stage of organizing it. Currently, we are focusing on:
    1) solidifying the basic presentation perspectives and contents to make a formal session announcement in early February, including each presentation title, abstract, presenters' bios, and
    2) getting feedback from the IG members for initial questions (i.e., what would you like to know from each respective group) and any ideas or adjustments that would help realize the purpose or goals of this session

Thus, if any IG members are interested in helping out, providing comments and/or questions, please post here or contact me directly.

    Thanks!
