Hello everyone! For any of you who attended ALA over the weekend, I hope you returned home with your professional cup filled - I know I sure did!

I wanted to share a special thanks to those of you who joined me for a meeting of our IG on Sunday. Almost all of you who attended are new to this group, and it was wonderful to meet everyone and talk about how we can best utilize this community to share ideas, ask questions, and find comradery with other folks leading collection management, development, or acquisitions work at their libraries. We discussed setting up a quarterly online discussion, so I'll work on getting our first one set up soon and will share details.

In the meantime, we haven't done an introduction thread for a while, so I'd like to invite everyone to use this thread to say hello, share a little about how you're involved in collection management/development/acquisitions work at your library, and anything else you would like to share.

I'm so excited to turn this IG into a helpful resource and thriving community for us within Core. Thanks for being here!

    Hello!

It was a fantastic meeting!  Thanks so much for hosting.  As for me, I'm the Assistant Director/Head of Adult Services for a mid-sized urban public library.  As such, I am involved in monitoring/reviewing all collection activity.  I have several sections that I select for personally, including our special collections/local history area.

I loved meeting everyone and learning from each of you who were at ALA!  I'm excited to learn from this group.

    Happy 4th everyone!

I was unable to attend ALA, but I'm excited to hear that there's momentum to develop this IG into a more active resource.

I'm the manager of the technical services department at the Salt Lake County Library (recently renamed - see my signature). We support 20 branches and have a collection budget of over $5M, with total circulation over 12M/year. Most of our collection development is done centrally. My involvement is more directly on the acquisitions and cataloging side of things. But I also participate in the collection management committee of the library which is the group who develops the policy and procedures around collections.

I'm interested in learning how others are balancing digital and physical collection spending. Also how libraries implementing technology to improve the collection management processes.

    Good afternoon,

I truly enjoyed the IG meeting at ALA and it was very nice to meet everyone who attended. I'm the Acquisitions and Collection Management Librarian for a regional public library in rural Virginia, and handle all things materials-related for our four locations.

I'm excited to see this group grow into a community of collaboration and learning!

    Hi!

I was also unable to attend, but I've always found this particular interest group among the most useful of my ALA sessions. I run (am) the technical services department for a small public library in SW Virginia and I do all the collection development and management. I'm really interested in hearing about eBooks and kits.
