Hello everyone,
A big thank you to Susan for facilitating yesterday's discussion on neurodiversity in the workplace. Here is a summary of what we discussed along with some resources, thank you.
Erik and Cinthya
- We discussed issues related to privacy and equity-depending on whether or not employees choose to disclose their neurodiverse status or needs
- What do accommodations look like as they can differ depending on the situation-this also includes things like offering specific tools and resources in a way that is inclusive and is part of support for all employees
- How do you balance having other employees perhaps needing to take on more duties as a result of these accommodations in a way that is equitable
- How do you change expectations for the group while not necessarily lowering them in terms of performance and if applicable activities related to promotion
- Ensuring that there is a culture of inclusion across the library so these issues can be discussed
- We also discussed specific needs that populations such as veterans and folks dealing with PTSD might have
- Finally, we discussed these changes for the workforce as a whole and how are we as managers equipping ourselves to help our organizations adapt and change to meet these complex needs that change according to the individual situation
