    *Please excuse cross-posting.

A new NACO/SACO Comics and Fiction Funnel, with charter membership by the GNCRT Metadata and Cataloging Committee, is actively seeking new members. We welcome those from across the cataloging, comics, and fiction worlds who are passionate about improving access to comics and fiction, regardless of experience.

We're excited to work on comics- and fiction-related authority projects, including (but not limited to): creating best practices for constructing fictional character name authority records; proposing comics creator roles for the Library of Congress Demographic Terms vocabulary (LCDGT); proposing changes to fiction and comics subject headings (LCSH) where the topic with the subdivision "$v Fiction" or "$v Comic books, strips, etc." is subsumed under the term for the genre itself (for example: catalogers can't use the terms "Crime $v Fiction" or "Detectives $v Fiction" in bibliographic records, but are pointed to "Detective and mystery stories" instead); and so on.

Base time commitment is a one-hour meeting per month; additional participation is flexible depending on project interest. If you have questions about joining the Funnel, please feel free to email GNCRT Metadata and Cataloging Committee co-chairs Deborah Tomaras (at Deborah.Tomaras@marist.edu) or Allison Bailund (at abailund@sdsu.edu).

The deadline to fill out the Volunteer Form is 12/02/22. Please consider joining us!
