    Hi Nancy:

I am attending CC:DA Annual meeting online right now.  Sorry that you can't attend the meeting this afternoon. The chair of CC:DA said that we can post our questions regarding your report in CC:DA public space.

Here are some questions for you:

    1. Staffing and Program Changes: Are there plans to fill the gaps left by NUCMC?
    2.  Descriptive Cataloging Manual (DCM) Updates: Can you elaborate on new instructions for handling privacy requests in authority records and how will catalogers be trained on these changes?
    3. Name Authority File and System Upgrades: What is the timeline for updating all associated authority records following the change of "Democratic Republic of the Congo"?   How are the system upgrades (e.g., Folio "Sunflower") affecting authority records and their distribution?
    4. Resource Description and Access (RDA): What are the anticipated challenges for LC and PCC in transitioning to Official RDA?
    5. Romanization Tables & Non-Latin Script Cataloging: How is the expansion of non-Latin script input affecting cataloging practices? What are the expected benefits and challenges of using BCP47 language/script codes in bibliographic and authority records?
    6. PCC Initiatives and Documentation: What are the outcomes of the recent PCC task groups (e.g., Documentation Modernization, Descriptive Standards in Hybrid Records)?  How will  the FAQ on cataloging AI-generated resources influence cataloging policy?
    7. Controlled Vocabularies and Classification: What are the impacts of recent subject heading changes (e.g., "Transgender people" → "Trans people", "Indians" → "Indigenous peoples")?  How is the Indigenous Headings Project progressing, and what are the next steps? What are the priorities for backlog reduction in LCSH, LCGFT, LCDGT, LCMPT, and LCC?
    8.  Training and Outreach: What are the new training resources are available for catalogers (e.g., LCGFT training, RDA workshops)?

    Thank you so much indeed!!!

    Amanda

    Hi Amanda,

Responses to your questions are below. Please email policy@loc.gov if you have follow up questions.

    All the best,

    Nancy

    1. Staffing and Program Changes: Are there plans to fill the gaps left by NUCMC?

If you are asking about the staffing gap, since NUCMC is ending, there is no need to assign staff to work on the program. If you have further questions, please direct them to policy@loc.gov.

    1.  Descriptive Cataloging Manual (DCM) Updates: Can you elaborate on new instructions for handling privacy requests in authority records and how will catalogers be trained on these changes?

I suggest reviewing the updates document to the DCM, available here, as well as the new version of the DCM Z1. If you have further questions, please direct them to policy@loc.gov.

    1. Name Authority File and System Upgrades: What is the timeline for updating all associated authority records following the change of "Democratic Republic of the Congo"?   How are the system upgrades (e.g., Folio "Sunflower") affecting authority records and their distribution?

Please direct your questions regarding the "Democratic Republic of the Congo" project to policy@loc.gov.

FOLIO System upgrades can cause delays in authority record distribution. LC announces when delays can be expected.

    1. Resource Description and Access (RDA): What are the anticipated challenges for LC and PCC in transitioning to Official RDA?

This question could be answered in various ways depending on who you ask. If you have a more specific question, please direct it to policy@loc.gov.

    1. Romanization Tables & Non-Latin Script Cataloging: How is the expansion of non-Latin script input affecting cataloging practices? What are the expected benefits and challenges of using BCP47 language/script codes in bibliographic and authority records?

I suggest contacting Network Development and MARC Standards Office regarding the BCP47 language/script codes in bibliographic and authority records, ndmso@loc.gov.

    1. PCC Initiatives and Documentation: What are the outcomes of the recent PCC task groups (e.g., Documentation Modernization, Descriptive Standards in Hybrid Records)?  How will  the FAQ on cataloging AI-generated resources influence cataloging policy?

I suggest reviewing the PCC Wiki for information on outcomes from specific task groups. https://wiki.lyrasis.org/spaces/PFCCP/pages/230821777/Program+for+Cooperative+Cataloging+PCC+Home

BFM for the recent changes related to the heading Trans people will be completed soon.

Please direct questions on the Indigenous Headings Project to indigenousheadings@loc.gov

    1.  Training and Outreach: What are the new training resources are available for catalogers (e.g., LCGFT training, RDA workshops)?

A link to the LCGFT training is listed in the report. PTCP will share the LC RDA training materials when they are available on the Catalogers Learning Workshop website.
