This is the kind of LCSH heading that follows a pattern. It should be Spouses, not Wives (notice that there are no LCSH terms that are Wives of ...). And if you see the existing heading Children of suicide victims, you'll see that Suicide victims is the broader term for that. BTs in LCSH aren't always logical; if the heading is Spouses of X, then the BT is X.

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback, Ashley! This is exactly the type of commentary we expect, so no worries at all. I had the same thought about this proposed heading. Looking at the proposed record, I also wonder if the BT should not be "Widows" instead of "Suicide victims." But that is complicated if we suggest changing it to "Spouses"; maybe "Widows" and "Widowers" become RTs? I'd be interested to know what others think.

Hi Rebecca,
This is my first time commenting on a tentative list, so apologies if this is not the kind of commentary requested.
Regarding "Wives of suicide victims", is there discussion as to why "wives" is chosen over the more generic "spouses" or "partners"? Additionally, is "husbands..." being considered as an additional heading?
Thanks,
Ashley
