About this Group

Purpose: Provides a venue for directing questions and concerns towards current and retired directors for open discussion. Possible topics could include leadership, library school education, major issues facing directors, preparing for an administrative role, positives and negatives of directing a library, and the thought processes of directors in day-to-day operations. The goal is to provide a group where directors and the curious alike can equally gain from the back and forth discussions, and educate people in the roles and experiences of directors.

This group is part of Core's Leadership and Management Section.

    Colleagues-

     

    The Dialogue with Directors Interest Group is pleased to announce that our IG Week program will take place on Wednesday, March 6, 12:00 – 1:00 PM Central (1:00 – 2:00 PM Eastern). Our theme is "Succession or Continuity Planning." Whether you are a seasoned strategic planner or a director newbie (or wannabe), at any type of library, we hope you will join us next week. The session outline is below and this is the registration link. The program will not be recorded.

     

    Succession planning is an important part of being a director. If this is on your mind – or already on your plate – come and share your experience with the Dialogue with Directors Interest Group. Some questions that we will discuss include the need to discuss continuity planning (budget cuts, retirements, strategic planning etc.); the process of developing a succession plan; and determining what you need to know to guide you.
