Summary
The Iowa State University Library seeks an engaging leader to serve as Head of Preservation. The Head of Preservation provides vision and leadership for a well-established preservation program and guides our dedicated team to ensure the longevity and long-term accessibility of our treasured collections across formats, facilities, and functional areas, all in service to ISU's land-grant mission.
The Head of Preservation shapes initiatives that safeguard our materials, ignites a passion for their use, and plays a vital role in setting overall preservation policy and priorities for the library. This position will coordinate and engage in collections care, conservation of Special Collections and University Archives materials, digitization and reformatting, digital preservation, education and outreach, environmental monitoring, and emergency preparedness and disaster planning.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree and 5 years of related experience. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supervising, coaching, and empowering staff, and administering a program
- Knowledge of or familiarity with collections care, conservation, digitization, digital preservation, climate control, disaster planning and preparedness, and working with preservation vendors
- Knowledge of best practices, current issues, and trends in preservation and conservation
- Ability to communicate complex ideas to a wide range of audiences
- Demonstrated commitment to creating a welcoming environment and contributing to a collaborative working and learning environment
Starting salary range: $70,000 to $85,000; Pay grade PS810
