Good afternoon all,
We had a very small meeting back in October to debrief our eForum and discuss succession of IG leadership. I'll post some minutes for formality's sake, but the bittersweet summary follows.
As you all may know, I have been chairing the IG since we were a Committee, and the two last years of the Committee besides. With ALA conducting Program Review and given the opportunity we have in Michelle's chairing the Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee, we thought it was the right time to sunset this IG.
I have confirmed with the Metadata & Collections Section Leadership Team and next year's Chair that it is okay to add any of you all to the Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee if you are a member of Core. Please let me know if you are interested. You'll need to fill out the volunteer form (Volunteer for a Core Committee) and I can add you right away. You can also fill out the volunteer form at the usual time, more like April, for consideration in regular, two-year appointments that begin July.
I will go ahead and reserve a room for us in April, skipping what would be a January meeting. (I'll announce that here on Connect closer to time). I think it would be good practice to get a quorum to vote the IG into a sub-agenda of the Committee if we can get together then for that single agenda item. That might give us a chance to exchange contacts and reflect if we wish as well.
So, stay tuned for that "Farewell Invite" in the Spring, and in the meantime, please do reach out if you would like to join the Committee. It has been a pleasure working with all of you and I really appreciate your passion for the small but mighty standards behind holdings metadata. It's the glue holding everything together :-D!
Happy Holidays and Best Wishes to All!
With gratitude,
Emily Fidelman
