    Hi all,

Thank you for the good discussion last Thursday! Let's continue working on the wording for the purpose of this group.

Current purpose: Explores the evolving nature of the library catalog and its relationship to the fundamental mission and expanding services of libraries.

Possibilities for updating this statement could be a simple as changing "library catalog" to "discovery systems", or could include other language discussed in the meeting or introduced here. We discussed introducing concepts such as discoverability, access, optimization, integration, and others to the purpose. What else do you suggest?

I rather like the language of "fundamental mission" as it's very inclusive, but it still needs to reflect the concept of discovery systems and how they interact with catalogs and other technology.

    Thoughts are very welcome!

    Adrienne

    A few ideas:

Explores the evolving nature of library catalogs and discovery systems, including integrations with various platforms and web tools that expand access to resources.

Explores the evolving nature of library catalogs and discovery systems, including integrations with various platforms and web tools to achieve a fundamental mission of libraries: providing access to resources.

Explores the evolving nature of user-centered catalogs and its integration with discovery systems, web tools, and other technology that expand access to library resources.

This one was suggested by Gemini:

To champion the optimization of library catalogs and discovery systems, fostering innovation in discoverability, access, and integration to empower libraries in their expanding service roles.

    Hi Casey,

I really like the language in your second iteration: Explores the evolving nature of library catalogs and discovery systems, including integrations with various platforms and web tools to achieve a fundamental mission of libraries: providing access to resources.

For the name of the group, I might suggest "Catalog and Discovery Systems Form & Function" or just Catalog and Discovery Systems Interest Group, what do you think? I'm going to look back at my notes and then send these ideas to the powers that be at ALA to see about making these changes official.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

Sounds great! I think "Catalog and Discovery Systems Interest Group" is a good title. "Catalog and Discovery System Form & Function Interest Group" feels a bit long.
