Dear fellow members of MARC Formats Transition Interest Group (henceforth, the "IG"),

Greetings! My name is Keiko Suzuki, Assistant Director for Metadata & Collection Services at the New School Libraries, Collections & Academic Services. I am a chair of the IG for the 2022-2023 term.

The IG provides a forum to educate the library community about ongoing efforts to transition from the MARC Standard for bibliographic  data and examines new approaches and strategies for implementing bibliographic  data models within the framework of linked open data and semantic web technology. It's truly exciting to see many linked open data initiatives and projects getting closer to a production level implementation. At the same time, MARC is not dead, nor will it disappear anytime soon. Indeed, it continues to be reviewed and updated on a regular basis. As Tom Cruise said, "Not today." I would hope  this IG can help provide forums for information-sharing, discussions, learning opportunities, and more.

Although the new term started about a month ago, I would love to have somebody who is willing to work with me as a co-chair. The Co-Chairs are expected to participate in session planning and delivery, including solicitation for speakers and selection of topics to be presented during the ALA Core Interest Group Week, filing reports to ALA, and selecting incoming Co-Vice-Chairs.  Attendance at ALA Annual Conferences and LibLearnX is desirable and highly encouraged. No prior experience is necessary, but one must be a member of ALA Core. More details are available on the IG's website (https://www.ala.org/core/member-center/interest-groups/marc-formats-transition) and at ALA Connect (https://connect.ala.org/core/communities/community-home?CommunityKey=bfdc5746-8b0b-4d09-a1b5-042f7f95abdd).

Please contact me directly (suzuki@newschool.edu) by Monday, August 22nd, 2022, if you are interested.

    Best,

    - Keiko
