    Hello everyone,

Welcome to a new year with the ALA Core Consortium Management Interest Group!

I am your new Interest Group chair through June 2024. My name is Michael Rodriguez, and I serve as senior strategist for content and scholarly communication initiatives at Lyrasis. I have worked in public and academic libraries since 2010, mostly recently at the University of Connecticut, where I had the privilege of working closely with the NERL consortium and Boston Library Consortium. I am looking forward to facilitating conversation and information sharing across this Interest Group.

Please feel free to ask a question or start a conversation anytime in our ALA Connect group. We have over 160 colleagues from libraries and consortia on this email list, so there is a wealth of knowledge and insight here! You can email the group at ALA-CoreConsortiumManagement@ConnectedCommunity.org.

What consortium-related topics are you interested in discussing? Please reply to this thread or email me at topshelvr@gmail.com with ideas. I would love to host a virtual panel or discussion forum on a topic of interest this fall.

    Thanks in advance,

    Michael

    Hi Michael-

Thank you for serving as IG chair this year!

There's always lots to discuss in the world of library consortia, so I'll throw out a few topic ideas....

    • How consortia support and advance equity, diversity, and inclusion
    • Cost share models (for consortia that support electronic resources, shared ILS/LSPs, etc.)
    • Succession planning in consortia
    • Consortia career paths (this could be good for Core Interest Group Week, since the audience would be beyond people already working for consortia)
    • Staff/board relations in consortia
    • The consortium value proposition -- how is it changing?

Happy to help put together programming for this group!

    Thanks,

    Miranda

    Hi Miranda,

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts and offering to help out! I really like each of your suggested topics and am especially drawn to the topic of consortia advancing DEI for a fall/winter discussion, perhaps followed by a consortia career paths discussion for Core Interest Group Week. I'll write you separately to consider our next steps. In the meantime, folks, please shoot me a note if you're interested in participating in programming or have ideas for speakers.

    Thank you!

    Michael
