Hi Michael, et al,
I agree it's an excellent paper summarizing the current state of the eBook market, and especially the issue of ownership vs. licensing. It's a mammoth paper; took me about 3 hours to read the whole thing!
And thanks, Michael, for continuing to serve as our CORE Ebooks Interest Group chair for another year! Much appreciated!

Subject: Good paper on how digital has changed ownership
Hi all,
I haven't had a chance to review this paper in depth fully yet, but I'm impressed with it so far.
"Something happened when we shifted to digital formats that created a loss of rights for readers. Pulling back the curtain on the evolution of ebooks offers some clarity to how the shift to digital left ownership behind in the analog world." https://www.nyuengelberg.org/outputs/the-anti-ownership-ebook-economy/
This is of course the issue we have been working on with state laws: how do we maintain collections when license terms are often unsustainable?
What do you think?
Michael
Oh, I'll be chair of the CORE Ebooks Interest Group in the next year. Hope you don't object! Would anyone like to be co-chair? I'll try to post news more often.
