Proposal 2025-01
I have similar concerns as in the CCM response, posted on the MARC list on 1/17/25. In addition to their concerns, I also observe that authority records, in particular, should not be trying to substitute for other reference works. The basic purpose of MARC authority records remains establishing the authorized character string and the justification for it. I find the additional information added to be the most helpful when it disambiguates entities that might otherwise be confused (or provides information that might be used for future disambiguation), or if it provides information that I would otherwise have to look up and confirm. (This is especially true for music name/title records in my experience.) I would prefer to have this proposal rejected.
Proposal 2025-02
Makes sense to me.
Discussion Paper 2025-DP01
Like CCM, I support this discussion paper, and agree that best practices/guidelines from cataloging communities will be essential if this content designation is implemented in MARC. I also agree that $z needs to always be at the end of the 245.
Discussion Paper 2025-DP02
The paper makes a compelling point about the need for this refinement. Using "other" should always be a last resort, because it really provides no context. (Other than what, exactly?). I support this moving to the proposal phase.
Discussion Paper 2025-DP03
Do "copy-specific" characteristics belong in the HOL format? (I realize that there is no MARC item format, but I don't see how this paper solves the problem if the library has two different bespoke bindings or two different annotated copies for the same "resource".
Discussion Paper 2025-DP04
The need for this change seems clear to me.
