ARL Invites Applications for DEI Institute 2025 Delegations | The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) invites libraries to apply to be part of the inaugural cohort of the ARL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Institute, which will take place March 17–19, 2025 at the Indiana University Indianapolis Campus Center, hosted by the Indiana University Libraries Bloomington, Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies, and the UC San Diego Library. The ARL DEI Institute aims to increase the capacity of participants to effect positive change with and within their respective communities through the acquisition and application of specific knowledge, awareness, and skills related to DEI, organizational development, and leadership. This work is currently made possible through the generous support of an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program implementation grant (RE-254925-OLS-23). The ARL DEI Institute aims to: - Provide tools, knowledge, skills, strategies, and resources to implement change
- Provide space and a sustainable platform for innovation, evaluation, and reflection
- Provide materials and ideas for furthering DEI-related key activities at participants' institutions
- Establish a community of practice to support ongoing commitment to institutional change
- Encourage the recognition of the needs of the broader diverse society served by galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAM institutions)
The DEI Institute will use a delegation model. Through an approximately six-month process, the delegation will develop an institutional action plan, which includes the option to enhance an existing plan, to advance the institution's efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The following topics will be addressed in the institute components: - Values
- Salience
- System (re)Design
- Hiring & Retention
- Training & Education
- Budgets & Resources
- Culture & Community
- Coalitions & Partners
- Measuring Progress
- Communication Strategies
- (counter)Stories
