  • 1.  Format for ALA Annual 2022 meeting?

    Posted Dec 17, 2021 10:12 AM
    Hello everyone,
Now is the time to request rooms for 2022 ALA Annual Conference! See below for all the information from Jenny. We are not obligated to meet in-person. If we do meet in-person, please note that microphones etc. are not going to be an option.

Please respond to this two-question poll by Wednesday, January 5 to gauge interest in-person activities.

    Thanks,
    Morag

Please start considering whether your committee wants to meet in-person at the 2022 Annual Conference. You're also welcome to hold a virtual meeting before the onsite conference (June 23-28, 2022). Conference attendance is not required to be a Core committee member.

Next week I'll be sharing a poll where you can select a date and time for your committee's meeting if you want to request a room to meet onsite. The deadline to fill out the poll will be Sunday, January 9, so we can meet ALA's deadlines. Later in January we'll be in touch with you to confirm your date and time and discuss any necessary details.

For those committees that want to hold a hybrid in-person/virtual meeting, we can work with you to schedule one of our Zoom rooms. Due to budget issues, we cannot provide microphones, speakers, projectors, screens, or wifi access if ALA isn't already providing wifi in the room. This is not our preferred situation, so we're hoping everyone has learned a lot about how to participate in Zoom meetings these past couple of years.

If each committee member brings a laptop, tablet, or phone and headphones, everyone could be in a Zoom meeting, which theoretically would work better than it would have 2-3 years ago. With headphones acting as a a microphone and speaker for each person, the remote participants should be able to hear any committee members who are talking. Committee members who don't own a device that can work with Zoom or don't have internet access could double-up with a committee member who does. The only issue might be observers, but we could include a note in the meeting description to bring a laptop, tablet, or phone, and headphones.

Please let me know if you have questions about any of this. I'll send the poll on Monday.

    Jenny

Based on the responses to the poll (see below), we will have a virtual meeting for ALA Annual. There does seem to be interest in an informal gathering in DC, so more on that closer to conference time.

    Thanks,
    Morag

There were 12 responses to the survey.

    2 – definitely in person

6 – Might attend in person, so would like virtual option

    4 – definitely virtual

And 7/9 were interested in an informal in-person event at ALA (regardless of format).
