The ALA Core Cataloging Norms Interest Group is seeking proposals for the 2025 ALA Core Interest Group Week. We invite you to submit presentation proposals for our program, which will be held virtually on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. (EST) / 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (CST)
Presentations should be 15-20 minutes long, with additional time for questions and discussion. The charge of the Cataloging Norms Interest Group is to offer a forum for the exploration, communication, and exchange of ideas on the dynamics and evolution of cataloging/metadata norms and workflows. We encourage and seek participation from anyone with an interest in cataloging - from public, academic, school, or special libraries - regardless of experience level or training.
Theme: Cataloging/Metadata Norms and Workflows
Possible topics of interest could include:
- Challenges of cataloging electronic resources
- Implementing provider-neutral record guidelines for electronic resources
- Linked data workflows and implementation in the MARC environment
- BIBFRAME and linked data
- Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in collections through cataloging and metadata
- Best practices for cataloging workflow audits and/or analysis
- Remediation and/or enhancement of vendor-supplied metadata records
- Catalog and cataloging norms: evolution, definition, and functions
- Cataloging and/or metadata and its related aspects in academic, public, special, or school libraries
You do not need to be a member of ALA/Core to present or attend.
The presenters will be notified of decisions by Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
