Hi FSAIG members,
I recently attended a FAST Policy and Outreach (FPOC) Meeting and there were two items that stood out to me.
Item 1 : FPOC members briefly mentioned the OCLC webpage that addresses the question : If a change is made to a Library of Congress subject heading in a bibliographic record, will the corresponding FAST heading be corrected via automation?
Since OCLC adds FAST headings to bibliographic records that do not have FAST headings and OCLC bases the FAST headings off of the Library of Congress headings, this webpage guides catalogers when changing headings in bib records that already contain FAST headings.
Item 2: FPOC members discussed the FAST Quick Start Guide, an 18-page document that gives an overview of FAST headings and how to apply them.
Questions for discussion: Are you adding FAST headings to catalog records and do you apply them to certain collections or types of materials more than others? Have you used the FAST Quick Start Guide? What are some benefits and/or difficulties in using FAST headings, FAST Converter, searchFAST, or the Quick Start Guide?
