FAST Policy and Outreach CommitteeThe FAST Policy and Outreach Committee (FPOC) is seeking 1-3 new members for positions that will become available in January 2026. FPOC is a joint committee of OCLC and FAST implementers and acts as an advisory and outreach body. FAST, or Faceted Application of Subject Terminology, is an enumerative faceted subject heading schema derived from the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). FAST is available as linked data, interoperable between platforms, and integrates well with metadata models like BIBFRAME.
Committee overview and commitmentOur priority is to ensure that FAST is a fully supported, widely adopted and community developed general subject vocabulary, with tools and services that serve the needs of diverse communities and contexts. Members serve for a maximum of two terms, each of two years, and are eligible to serve as co-chair.
The committee meets online bi-monthly, with meetings usually lasting one hour. Members are also expected to contribute to the advisory work of the committee and the promotion of FAST. Membership guidelines
can be found here. Interested candidates can self-nominate
using this form and return it no later than October 17, 2025.
FPOC is focused on promoting the use and implementation of OCLC's faceted vocabulary and encourages candidates working in diverse subject areas to apply.
