  • 1.  Employee Recognition Awards Examples

    Posted Jul 22, 2024 01:24 PM

    Hi everyone,

My organization is looking into establishing some employee recognition awards across our several libraries inclusive of faculty, staff, or teams. These would be centered on library employees and library work.  We are starting somewhat from scratch, but if you have a successful employee recognition program and would be willing to share any details of it, I would really appreciate it! You can send extra information that you may not want to share on the list by reaching me at catie.carlson@uc.edu.

    Thanks so much!

    Hello Catie,

We have annual Celebration of Achievement for library staff, volunteers, and teams. It has been in place for 25 years. I wasn't around for its inception, but currently, the previous year's award winners make up the Achievement Award Committee. The committee puts out a call for nominations, reviews nominations, and selects winners. Awards include recognition of years of service (small trophies), recognition of individual achievement (Up to 4 individual awards to outstanding individuals nominated by their library peers, and 1 Preston White Award for outstanding service. Winners receive framed certificates and cash awards: $100 for individual achievement; $150 for the Preston White Customer Service Award.), recognition of volunteers (certificates), recognition of team accomplishment (certificates), and an occasional "Rising to the Occasion" award (certificate). There have been some changes over the years (nomination form is now online, the team and "Rising to the Occasion" awards are new, and the event is hybrid). We have refreshments and time to visit afterward. Let me know if you have further questions and good luck with your planning!

    Best,
    Marsha
