    Colleagues-

I received this information from Amanda Ros this afternoon (thanks, Amanda!).

The IFLA Cataloguing Section is pleased to announce the release of the draft 2025 edition of the International Cataloguing Principles (ICP) and to reach out to the entire cataloguing community for your input on it before publication in its final version. With this version, the ICP Working Group aimed to create a statement that is more lightweight and accessible, crafting the language in order to improve clarity for non-native English speakers in particular and to provide greater consistency for all users. Elements of the previous version that are superfluous, such as the glossary which is now covered by MulDiCat, the common glossary for all IFLA bibliographic standards, have been removed. This allows for greater emphasis on the crucial elements of the ICP - the principles of cataloguing themselves and the objectives of the catalogue. The result is a statement which is fully aligned with the IFLA suite of bibliographic standards and encompasses both traditional and linked data cataloging models. Throughout, the 2025 ICP provides a valuable emphasis on the consistency of the fundamental principles of cataloging, as reliable and up-to-date as they were fifty years ago.

Please read and review the 2025 ICP here and also be sure to read the statement of intent which provides an useful overview of the key changes made in this version.

Please distribute widely amongst your cataloging networks.

    Next steps for CC:DA are:

    1. Approve and charge a task force to prepare the CC:DA response.
    2. Have that group create a final response for CC:DA approval.
    3. Submit the response by the May 16 deadline. [This is the CC:DA Chair's responsibility.]

My next posting/message in this space will address these steps - stay tuned!

    Kathy
