    ALA Core Creative Ideas in Technical Services (CITSIG) is pleased to announce the in-person round table discussion topics for the upcoming ALA Annual Conference in San Diego on June 29th from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm. The discussions will take place in the beautiful Hilton Bayfront, Indigo Ballroom DH (2nd floor).

    Topic 1:  Later Career Librarians in Technical Services

    Facilitator:  Susan Davis, Acquisitions Librarian for Continuing Resources and Licensing Specialist & Electronic Resources Team Coordinator at the University at Buffalo (SUNY)

    General descriptionThe recent Core e-forum "Going the Distance: Thriving as a Long-Career Professional" generated a lively discussion. Susan will be following up on some of the themes revealed during that conversation including:

    •  Support for professional development

    •  Misperceptions about late-career employees, such as resistance to change or inability to keep pace with technology

    •  Resources and strategies to remain engaged and relevant

    •  Strategies to thrive in a multigenerational workforce

    •  Planning for life in retirement

    •  Topics/ideas for conference presentations tailored especially for long-career professionals

    Topic 2:  Critical Cataloging 

    Facilitator:  Shanna Hollich, Learning and Training Manager, Creative Commons

    General description: Shanna Hollich will be facilitating a discussion on respectful terminologies and metadata.

    Topic 3:  Hiring in Technical Services

    Facilitator: Bela Gupta, Division Head, Library Technical Services, Cataloging & Metadata Librarian, Claire T. Carney Library, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

    General descriptionWith budgetary limitations, management issues related to transitions in higher positions at the library, and logistical issues connected to university policies, Bela will be facilitating a discussion on hiring issues in Technical Services. Environmental factors that have effects on motivation including financial rewards, culture, and the diversity of staff experience and roles will also be discussed.

    Topic 4: Project Management Lite Using Teams

    Facilitator: Robin Buser, Supervisor, Technical Services, Columbus State Community College

    General descriptionRobin Buser will be facilitating a roundtable discussion on project management using MS Teams.

    Topic 5: Electronic Resources Licensing Issues

    Facilitator: Kelli Getz, Head of Electronic Resources, University of Notre Dame

    General descriptionKelli Getz will be facilitating a roundtable discussion on current issues in licensing electronic resources.
